Sau nhiều tuần chờ đợi kể từ phiên bản WordPress 4.7 Beta ra mắt với nhiều tính năng tuyệt vời, thì hôm nay phiên bản chính thức đã bắt đầu ra mắt và mọi người có thể nâng cấp lên. Nếu muốn bạn có thể nên đợi phiên bản 4.7.1 ra mắt hãy nâng cấp để ổn định hơn, vì theo kinh nghiệm của mình thì phiên bản đầu tiên bao giờ cũng nhiều lỗi phát sinh hơn. Tuy nhiên chúng ta cũng nên điểm danh qua các chức năng có trong phiên bản WordPress 4.7 này và mình chắc chắn có vài tính năng mà bạn trông chờ bấy lâu nay đó.

Các tính năng mới trong WordPress 4.7

1/ Tùy chỉnh ngôn ngữ ở trang quản trị

Một vấn đề chúng ta hay gặp trước đây đó là không thể dùng ngôn ngữ ở trang quản trị khác với ngôn ngữ ngoài website. Thông thường nhu cầu của chúng ta là ngôn ngữ hiển thị ra bên ngoài website là tiếng Việt, nhưng trang quản trị là tiếng Anh vì nhiều bài hướng dẫn họ viết dựa trên trang quản trị là tiếng Anh nên dùng ngôn ngữ khác không biết đâu mà lần.

Với phiên bản WordPress 4.7, chúng ta đã có thể thiết lập ngôn ngữ tại trang quản trị riêng cho từng người dùng bằng cách truy cập vào Users -> Your Profile và chọn phần Language.

Và ở phần Settings -> General bạn có thể thiết lập ngôn ngữ chính của website là gì tùy thích thì trang quản trị vẫn là tiếng Anh.

2/ Giao diện Twenty Seventeen độc đáo

Phiên bản mới kèm theo giao diện mới là truyền thống hàng trăm năm nay của WordPress rồi nên lần này là giao diện Twenty Seventeen với thiết kế đơn giản nhưng không kém phần tinh xảo, font chữ tối ưu cho mọi ngôn ngữ và mọi trình duyệt, hệ điều hành.  Với giao diện này người dùng có thể thay đổi ảnh banner trên đầu trang và màu sắc tùy thích, và một cải thiện mới của WordPress là bây giờ người dùng có thể sử dụng video chèn vào phần đầu trang nếu giao diện có hỗ trợ, ví dụ như giao diện Twenty Seventeen này chẳng hạn.

3/ Tùy biến CSS không cần sửa theme

Chúng ta thường thêm các đoạn CSS cần tùy chỉnh vào thẳng tập tin style.css trong theme nhưng sẽ bị mất khi cập nhật lại theme. Chúng ta có thể sử dụng child theme nhưng một cách đơn giản hơn đó là cài plugin hỗ trợ nhúng CSS thẳng vào website.

Với phiên bản WordPress 4.7, bạn không cần cài thêm plugin nào nữa mà có thể chèn CSS tại mục Appearance -> Customize -> Additional CSS.

Tuy nhiên hiện tại họ vẫn chưa hỗ trợ Highlight Syntax để dễ nhìn hơn, nếu bạn muốn Custom CSS mà có hỗ trợ highlight syntax thì có thể dùng plugin TJ Custom CSS.

4/ Nút sửa nhanh trong Customize

Bây giờ bạn sẽ không cần phải đi mò mẫm trong cái trang tùy chỉnh của theme để tìm phần mà mình muốn sửa, bây giờ bạn có thể sửa nhanh bằng cách nhấp vào nút sửa nhanh màu xanh có trên giao diện. Nút này có tác dụng để sửa widget, tiêu đề trang và mô tả của trang.

5/ Thêm trang trực tiếp trong trang sửa Menu

Bây giờ khi bạn vào phần sửa menu tại trang Customize, bạn có thể tạo một trang mới ngay tại đó và thêm vào menu thay vì trở lại phần quản lý trang và tạo trang mới rồi truy cập vào lại. Việc này sẽ tiết kiệm rất nhiều thời gian nếu bạn cần thêm nhiều trang mà bạn chưa có lên menu, sau khi tạo xong thì có thể điền nội dung vào sau.

6/ Tập tin PDF hỗ trợ ảnh đại diện

Bây giờ khi upload tập tin PDF lên website thì nó cũng sẽ tự tạo ra ảnh đại diện dựa trên trang đầu tiên của tập tin PDF đó.

7/ Hỗ trợ Post Template, giống như Page Template

Page Template là một tính năng tuyệt vời để chúng ta tạo ra các trang với cấu trúc được định sẵn. Bây giờ các bài viết (post) cũng đã hỗ trợ tính năng này. Cách tạo cũng đơn giản đó là thêm một tập tin .php vơi tên bất kỳ và xác định post template với đoạn sau:

Trong đó, Template Name là tên của template và Template Post Type là tên post type cần sử dụng template này. Dĩ nhiên bạn có thể sử dụng một template cho cả Post lẫn Page.

Tính năng này sẽ thật sự là một bước đột phá cho những ai yêu thích việc thiết kế theme vì có rất nhiều ứng dụng trong việc này. Chúng ta hãy chờ xem các theme mới sau này được sinh ra sẽ tận dụng tối đa tính năng này nhé.

8/ Thêm hành động tùy chỉnh trong Bulk Action

Giờ đây các lập trình viên có thể can thiệp vào phần Bulk Action của WordPress và thêm một hành động tùy thích vào vì chức năng này trước đây chủ yếu dùng trong việc sửa hoặc xóa nhiều bài viết thôi.

../ Và nhiều cập nhật khác

Ngoài những tính năng mới tiêu biểu mình đề cập ở trên thì phiên bản WordPress 4.7 này cũng thêm một số chức năng khác vào mã nguồn mà bạn có thể xem đầy đủ tại đây để rõ hơn, đặc biệt là WP REST API.

Lời kết và nên cập nhật ngay không?

Sau khi trải nghiệm qua mình thấy WordPress 4.7 thật sự là một đợt cập nhật có giá trị khi có nhiều tính năng mà mình đã từng mong muốn được có trước đây, không biết các bạn thì sao?

Nếu website của bạn đang dùng ít plugin thì có thể cập nhật lên phiên bản 4.7 ngay bây giờ vì mình thử cập nhật ở nhiều trang cũng chưa thấy có lỗi phát sinh nào. Một phần là trong bản cập nhật này đa phần là thêm tính năng mới vào mã nguồn chứ không có sự thay đổi nào trong mã nguồn có thể xung đột với các plugin hay theme. Nhưng nếu bạn lo lắng thì có thể backup trước rồi cập nhật hoặc đợi phiên bản 4.7.1 nhé.

User profile info:

• Cooking levels – The cooking level for a user. It can be “None”, “Beginner”, “Intermediate”, “Expert” or “Professional”.
• Last user visit – Display the time when a user has been active on the site.
• Number of profile views – How many time other users visited the main profile page of a specific user.
• Living in – Allows the user to set the home country/location.
• User website – If the user has a website, it can display its URL on the profile page.
• Registration date. – Shows the registration date. It may be usefull for other users, because they will know how old this user is on the curent site.
• Reputation score. – Shows how many reputation points the user has, with the link to detailed info about it.
• Number of followers/following. – he number of folowers and the number of users that is following with the link to the list of users.
• About – A short description about itself.
• Send Private message – Allows other user to contact the user via a private contact form.
• Settings – Allows the user to set/update profile settings.
• Follow button – Using AJAX it allows to instantly follow a user.
• Awards – A list of awards that the user has won.
• Social profiles – A list of URLs to other social networks where the user is register
• User activity – A log with all user’s activity. It displays, the recipes submited, user following actions, recipes added to favorites and liked recipes.
• Avatars – Any registered user is allowed to upload a custom avatar image. The avatars works everywhere, in comments, members list, forums, etc. No limits.
• Password metter – When the user is updating its profile, and if is picking a new password, there is an indicator that shows how strong the password is. This is done by following an algorithm that determine the password length and the caracters used. If the password is at least 8 chars long and contains one lowecase letter, on uppercase letter, one number and one special character, it is determined to be strong.
• User profile “My recipes” – is a page where the user can see all all its recipes. Check the status and access the edit tools.
